About me

My collage story

I was born and raised in Connecticut in the USA. I've been living in Europe since 2005. Growing up, my parents always encouraged me to be creative. In my teenage years, I took classes in painting, photography, life drawing, and ceramics. Back then, I wanted to pursue a career in the arts, but changed my mind and decided to play it safe and train to be a nutritionist instead. As an adult, my busy work and personal life took over, and my passion for art lay dormant for many years. Then, I started making collages in 2020, during the COVID lockdown. With the shops all shut, it was impossible to get my hands on art materials beside through the internet. So I tapped into my resourcefulness and looked around my house for random materials that I could work with. Old magazines, books, and used paper...whatever I could get my hands on. And that's how this entire thing got started. In that first year, I made over 200 collages. And since then, I've been producing loads and loads at the same rate. Over the years, I've developed a passion for working with old magazines and books from the 1950s and 1960s. I love that era, and the exquisite clothing and styles that people had back then. Making a collage is a very cathartic process for me, and I like to do it as a way to process what's happening in my life. But sometimes, I also make silly and ridiculous ones, in order to have a laugh at myself. Collage is a very sustainable technique because you give new life to old paper that otherwise would have been tossed or put in the shredder. How meaningful is that?

When not collaging, I like to travel and explore the world with my husband and 3 daughters.

Fun fact about me: my grandfather was Curt Swan, the famous comic artist of Superman. He worked decades long for DC Comics, creating the iconic images from the Superman comic books. Creativity is in our genes! https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Curt_Swan

Exhibitions

In recent years, I've been chosen to exhibit my artwork in the Netherlands, including a publication in a magazine.
